A guide to sprains and strains
Staying active through exercise and sports is great for your body and mind, but sometimes injuries like strains and sprains can occur.
Knowing how to handle these injuries properly can make a big difference in your recovery. Here’s a quick and easy guide to help you manage these common issues.
The RICE Method
Rest: The first thing you should do when you get injured is to rest. Protect the injured area and avoid any physical activity that could make it worse. Give your body the time it needs to heal.
Ice: To reduce swelling, apply a cold pack to the injured area for 15-20 minutes every two hours. This will help to numb the pain and keep the swelling down.
Compression: Using elastic bandages or straps, wrap the injured area. This will help to limit swelling and provide support to the area as it heals.
Elevate: Whenever possible, keep the injured area elevated above your heart level.
Managing Pain and Knowing When to Seek Help
If you’re dealing with pain from a strain or sprain, it’s a good idea to consult your Unichem Pharmacist. They can provide tailored advice on pain management and recommend products that might help.
However, if the pain doesn’t improve after a few days, it’s important to seek medical attention. Persistent pain could be a sign of a more serious injury that needs professional care.
